Durban has been exceptionally hot and humid the past few days. When I popped into the supermarket, I happen to come across watermelon. I hadn’t had this for ages and with my new addiction to smoothies, I decided to buy it and whip up something sweet for a change.
So what’s the deal with watermelons?
The health benefits of watermelon include the prevention of kidney disorders, high blood pressure, the prevention of cancer, diabetes, heart disease, heat stroke, macular degeneration and impotence.
Watermelon is low in calories and contains no fat or cholesterol, all of which aid weight loss. Yay, for us woman trying to keep our weight in check. They are also so sweet and juicy, keeps you hydrated and make an awesome healthy snack.
Watermelon is also good for maintaining eye health. They are a good source of beta carotene which is converted to Vitamin A which is not only good for maintaining eye health but also for keeping skin and hair moisturized and encouraging the health growth of new collagen and elastin cells.
I made a quick and easy smoothie with my watermelon. No green leaves in this one. It was super refreshing.
